Larissa Jaye

Larissa Jaye is a multi-passionate creative who brings her whole self to the role of Director, after previously singing with Rock Voices Montclair as a member since its inception. She has performed in vocal ensembles, bands, plays, and musicals since childhood, and developed a particular love of the contemporary a cappella genre through spending her college years as a proud member and Assistant Director of the SUNY Binghamtonics, while majoring in sociolinguistics and double-minoring in music and theatre. Through a few post-collegiate pivots, including teaching public-school kindergarten and working at an indie record label, Larissa pursued a career as a singer-songwriter and recorded her first album (New Leaves Over, 2009), which is available on now-vintage CD – plus Spotify, Apple Music, and most other digital platforms. Still nostalgic for her harmonic roots, along with the sense of teamwork and kinship that came with it, by the beginning of 2011 Larissa founded The Current – an award-winning semi-professional a cappella group based in NYC, for which she still sings and serves as Co- Managing Director. Among their credits, The Current has sung at the UN, on PBS, as competitors on Lullaby League (a web series hosted by Jim O’Heir), and as back-up to the late great Aretha Franklin; the group regularly sells out their headline shows, has several singles available for streaming, and can be found online @TheCurrentNYC. Adjacent to music and voice-related topics, Larissa has worked as a trained and certified life coach since 2007. She has a substantial cross-country background in facilitating personal self-development workshops, as well as training coaches and trainers, and spent a decade as the Director of Certifications at the Fearless Living Institute. She holds an additional certification in Sound and Music Healing, which she incorporates into all of her endeavors as much as possible. These days, Larissa runs a private coaching and consulting practice that encapsulates many of her strengths and interests, and she also works as a freelance branding/graphic designer and artist, with a product line in development. She is passionate about family – her own, and all other varieties – plus kindness, empathy, connection, and creating safe spaces for self-expression of all kinds. Larissa and her husband have lived in Montclair with their feline furbabies since 2014, and she is deeply grateful for the opportunity to co-create such an inspiring, impactful, and fulfilling local singing community as part of the Rock Voices team.
